Happy Thursday lovelies. I had all these big plans for my morning. The alarm on my berry would go off, I'd stretch my legs and jump outta bed, make my Isagenix shake, walk Gigi, shower, do my hair, get dressed and stop at Starbys for a latte treat on my way to work. Cut to me resetting my alarm for 8am, snoozing until 25 after, texting coworker to say the new plan was I'd pick him up at 9:30, throw myself in the shower, feed Gigi and myself simultaneously, use the turbo setting on my hair dryer, get coconut oil (my new moisturizer) on the Joe Fresh shirt I threw on with my pencil skirt, decide that it doesn't matter, make a latte (thanks for Tassimo and a milk frother), slice my finger and nail on a sharp knife in the sink, find a band aid, tell coworker I'm leaving in 3 minutes and then leave in 8 minutes, pick him up and drive to work to find the parking lot full, walk to the office sweating, fan myself with a notebook and scratch my face. Winning over here, big time.
You know what though, it wasn't bad. It's sunny out, it's almost the weekend, I'm going out for lunch with lovely people from work, my brother and sisters are visiting me tomorrow night and I'm happy happy over here. So sometimes your day doesn't go as planned. Big deal. At least you're alive and healthy. What's making you happy today my loves?

This Realistic Scene
Last night I ordered Sex and the City 2 and watched it with Gigi. She's such a chic, city dog so of course she loved it :) I really enjoyed the movie, but I think my favourite scene was when Miranda and Charlotte met in their hotel suite bar and discussed how tough it is being mothers. When Charlotte exclaims, "I can't lose the nanny!" I felt like FINALLY something real had happened. I'm not a mother, so I can't pretend to understand how tough it is, but I'm guessing that when Charlotte and Miranda exchanged mommy tales of woe it was pretty accurate. Seeing two friends talk about the important stuff in life and ease each other through the tough parts touched me heart. Your close friends are the ones who force you to be honest with yourself, while still protecting your heart. Your best friend will make you admit that the guy you're chasing is a douche and that you do in fact look crazy when you analyze his every text. Sometimes we need somebody close to us to hold the mirror up to our face and show us reality.
Have you grappled with something only to have your friends tell you to smarten' up and deal with your life? My cousin Jen often does that for me. She doesn't hold back when it comes to giving me advice and although it stings sometimes, her words come from love. They always have and always will. When was the last time you were honest with yourself and those around you about the really tough stuff?

This Bash Stuff

Tonight is the fourth annual B-Strong Bash. It's the first one without Lindsay though and I'm wondering what the tone and atmosphere will be like. Now, Linds would NOT want any gloomy people at her bash, but that doesn't mean that there still won't be a flow of tears as we remember the girl who built this charity while facing a sometimes grim outlook on her future. She had guts that girl and I'm extremely lucky to have known Ms. Bolger.
If you have a few minutes, check out the website, make a donation, buy a Lindsay Bear and make a difference. http://www.bstrong.ca/. I promise, you'll feel empowered afterwards. Lindsay was the kind of gal who made the rest of us look lazy. She didn't let anything stop her. Such a great quality!
Tonight will be a blast, as it always is. Ryan's dad, along with Lindsay's dad and some other men from the community will provide some live entertainment and I always love hearing them play. When I was Dave (Ryan's dad) on the drums, I picture Ryan in 20 years and it makes me all warm inside. Ryan and I actually had our second date at the first ever bash a few years ago. That was the first time I looked at him and thought, "No matter what else happens tonight, I just want him to kiss me." Always a gentleman, he says now that I didn't give him the "signal," but we did get that first kiss shortly after and thinking about it still makes me smile.
So, whatever you get up to on this Friday night, think about some ways you can make a difference in the lives of others. I know Lindsay will be thrilled.

This Girl Can't Fix Cars
I can't fix my car if it breaks. Monday morning I was already 30 minutes behind schedule when I went to get gas on my way to work. I was beyond empty, late for work and craving a latte. I drove up a titch too close so I had to stand right beside the pump in order to fill the tank. Here's my first girl car issue: a warning light had been on in my car for a while, but the Jeep was still running fine so I figured I'd get around to having it checked out when a) I had more time and b) I felt my budget could handle car maintenance.
As the parched tank slurped up the fuel I looked around. And then I looked down. My back left tire - which the nice lady at the car place told me was the "Rear Driver" tire - was almost completely flat. Happy Monday morning Crystal! I finished with the gas and went in to ask where the air thingey was. I couldn't see it and I was worried this particular gas station didn't have the machine to put air in your tires...I have no idea if that's even a possibility, I'm a chick. The woman behind the counter thought I was asking somebody to fill my tires for me. The nerve of her honestly! Really though, some help from anybody with a clue would have been great right about then.
With directions to drive around the other side of the shop, I found the tire-filler-up machine. Now, at the state my tire was in, I'm not sure how I thought adding air to it was going to help. Never wanting to appear that I'm not totally in control, I yanked on the cord and marched the hose over to the tire. What's really fun is my outfit through this ordeal. I was wearing a black and white pencil skirt, a white tee and pale silver BCBG wedge heels. Not exactly a suitable outfit for playing mechanic.
I was on my hands and knees, quite possibly offending more lady-like women than I could be at that moment when it struck me, "I'm screwed." I got in to the car and called my project manager to say that I'd definitely be late for work, that my tire was completely flat and that I had no idea what to do next. He asked me if I had CAA. I said I could phone my dad and ask him. He asked if I knew where any auto shops were. I said "No" with serious conviction.
I felt like such a tool. I was a dream come true for guys in an auto shop. I had car troubles and I had no idea what it was going to take to fix them. Luckily, the Active Green and Ross on Adelaide are not a crew who hose unsuspecting women like a bunch of crooks. I got the puncture in my tire sealed for around 40 bucks. I sat at Starbucks with a latte while they worked on my car. I even managed to buy two Christmas presents at the Chapters down the street! Pretty productive morning as it turns out.
Ladies, it's okay that we don't know how to fix cars. I know where to go when it's time for an oil change and I pump my own gas. Beyond that, I get my dad to help me or I go to the professionals. If they gouge me, I just send my dad in afterwards to "rectify" the situation. He's big and Irish and scary when he needs to be. He's actually a big softie, but that's another post for another time.
